| 5star Gomoku is a free board game that is
easy to learn but hard to master. You play against the computer, laying out Xs and Os. The
object is to build a row of five, horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. You alternate
turns as well as starting moves. You can play at five skill levels from beginner to
expert. There is background music if you choose, with a range of tunes to entertain you. A
real-time scoreboard keeps track of the time of play; you can set available time to make
your move in the options panel to add a bit of pressure. Gomoku is a challenge for those
who are tired of Solitaire, Minesweeper, and Freecell.

signs on the squares of an empty game-board, which consists of 19 horizontal and 19
vertical lines.

Program algorithm annotation.
The program is based on a powerful algorithm
of searching moves that can consider positions 12 moves ahead. Contests have been held
between 5star Free Gomoku and other 9 Gomoku
programs. The program under consideration has easily
beaten its counterparts and has proved the best.
If you and your friends play Gomoku you should try to play 5star Free Gomoku. Your friends
will be surprised at your big progress in playing.
5star Free Gomoku
will teach you to avoid traps of
counterparts, to prepare your own traps, to make strategic moves and to foresee the
development of the position many moves ahead. The program can provide you with
recommendations, which move to make in a difficult position.
5star Free Gomoku
is an interesting game that will make your leisure more exciting and
intellectual!
How Program finds the next move.
Starting with the given position the Program
makes several moves of its own and for the partner on the “virtual” board and
evaluates this new position. A number of moves or, in other words, the depth of exhaustive
search is defined by the player’s level (Dilettante, Candidate, Master and Expert).
The maximum depth of exhaustive search equals to 12 and is set at the level
“Expert”. Of all the positions the Program chooses the one having the highest estimate
and makes a move leading to the above-mentioned position.
It is obvious that the correctness of the estimate influences crucially the quality
of the Program’s playing. After many attempts the author of the Program managed to
develop the effective function of evaluating the position which provides a high class of
the Program’s playing. Apart from that, methods have been found enabling to ignore the
so-called “silly” moves; it provides the depth of search up to 12 moves.
At the level of “Beginner” the Program imitates the human errors and can
overlook the obvious moves. But a human being can beat the Program at any level not only
at the level “Beginner”.
A skilful player is able to evaluate the position better than a Program, thanks to
the intuition, and, thus, to reach a success.
Have more practice and you’ll become an experienced player!
